日本で
1970年、生沢はF1の最終段階、F2へステップアップした。E、フイティバルデイ、Rピーターソンも当然のごとく上がってきた。さらに、クレィ・レガッオーニ、デレック・ベルと後のF1の常連達もグリッドを賑わしていた。イギリスF3が地方予選なら、F2はF1世界選手権の縮小版だ。
本当に世界から強豪が集まってくるのだ。
第2戦で2位入賞以外は、目立った成績も挙げられず70年は終わった。
F2とはいえ、F1と同じマネーパワーが成績に顕著に反映する、速いピーターソンはマーチのバックアップでさらに速いマシンになる。エマーソンやレガッオーニも同じで、強力なバックアップ体制を持つ事が、よりスペシャルな存在になれる。日本から資金を得て活動する生沢に、そこまでの
スペシャルなバックアップは望めなかった。
翌'71年、生沢は日本でもヨーロッパでも不調に落ち込んだ。

第2戦西ドイツのホッケンハイム、優勝した
レガッオーニと2位生沢の差は0秒3。
第4戦の1位、シファートと2位、レガッオーニの差は0秒1。
第5戦は1位レガッオーニ、2位シフォートの順位で差は0秒3。
観客が熱狂するのも判る。手に汗にぎるデッドヒート。そのままだから。
1.6リットルF2の性能が安定し、ドライバーの腕が勝負を左右する本来のモータースポーツの
姿がこの時期だったのかも知れない。
この年の2位を最後に生沢が表彰台に立つ事が無くなった。
72年、F2のエンジンが2リットルに拡大され、供給が追いつかなくなる状態になった時、生沢は
ヨーロッパ撤退を決意した。
